First Wildlife Olympiad started with the regional phase from Narayanganj

Wildlife Olympiad 2024 is being held for the first time in Bangladesh for secondary and higher secondary students across the country to promote awareness and conservation of wildlife and ecosystems under the slogan 'Smart Youth Save Forest'.

District phase of the first Wildlife Olympiad was organized at Narayanganj Government Girls’ High School on Tuesday in the morning. The district Olympiad was held with the participation of about eight hundred students from various educational institutions of Narayanganj district.

The Olympiad is being organized in all the districts of the country under the Sustainable Forestry and Livelihood (SuFaL) project of the Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Announcing the opening of the district phase of the Olympiad at 9 am, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Haque said, "This kind of nationwide organization for wildlife conservation will help students to be more aware of the environment, wildlife and biodiversity”. He highly appreciated the initiative of the Forest Department.

Narayanganj Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Hamidur Rahman, Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Didarul Islam, Forest Department Assistant Forest Conservator Jamal Hossain Talukder, Narayanganj Government Girls’ High School Principal Masuda Akhtar and many others were present at the inauguration.

After the inauguration, the 30-minute test began. At the end of the tests, the evaluation of their answer sheets was carried out. Finally, 20 winners were selected in school and college category based on the test results. Out of which the first 6 in two categories will participate in the National Wildlife Olympiad. Certificates, medals and t-shirts of all winners of the regional phase can be collected from the office of Narayanganj District Conservator of Forests.

National level Olympiad will be organized in Dhaka with the participation of district level winners. All participants are getting e-certificate at district level. Winners of the national phase will receive T-shirts, winners' certificates and medals. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of each category in the national phase will get Tk 50,000, 30,000 and 20,000 respectively.
